The Role of ‘Feminine Energy’ in 2025

In honour of International Women’s Day, Liberty – and our creative community – define the concept of ‘feminine energy’ on their own terms

By: Team Liberty

Whether it’s a tech giant calling for a steer away from ‘feminine energy’ in the workplace or a social media movement urging women to lean into their ‘feminine energy’ in 2025 – the world may be seemingly obsessed, but what does it mean anyway? As a gathering place for the free-of-spirit, Liberty has long rejected binary notions, believing that expressions of femininity are as diverse as those who embody them. In the spirit of IWD, a moment dedicated to dismantling stereotypes, we consult the Liberty community – from our internal pioneers to our brand founders via friends of the artistic movement – to unpick what ‘feminine energy’ really means to us all today…

Thora Valdimarsdottir

Founder of ROTATE

“For me, feminine energy is about owning who you are at your core. Whether that’s your family, your career, a hobby you have, or doing something completely different, it’s about what you connect with and owning that fully.”

Jeanette Madsen

Founder of ROTATE

“It’s finding what makes you happy and nurturing that, without trying to force yourself into someone else’s idea of who you should be. When you truly accept yourself, that’s when you can feel empowered, no matter what that looks like for you.”

Stina ‘Bibbi’ Seger

Founder of BIBBI

“In 2025, feminine energy feels like a powerful, grounding force that brings both strength and compassion. With so many traditional power structures still led by men, now more than ever, there’s a real need for a nurturing yet firm mother energy – one that fosters growth, healing, and connection as well as setting strong boundaries and standing up for justice. I feel that the boys in power really need this mother energy to put them in place… “

Anya Hindmarch

Founder of ANYA HINDMARCH

“For me, feminine energy = empathetic strength.”

Yasmin Sewell

Founder of VYRAO

“An energy that vibrates from the heart, that leads with intuition, love and compassion but has extraordinary strength and resilience.”

Yasmin Sewell, founder of VYRAO

Sarah Coonan

Managing Director of LIBERTY retail

“For me, feminine energy means intuition, creativity and empathy, all of which lead to high performing teams who feel supported, inspired and enabled to create their best work. When I’m surrounded by people like this, everything seems possible and we are all able to connect with our higher purpose. The energy generated by these talented and creative individuals adds to the magic of Liberty.”

Honorine Blanc

Master perfumer at dsm-firmenich and creator of LIBERTY LBTY. Vine Thief, Wild Rosinda and Hera Reigns

"In 2025, the essence of femininity knows no limits. It's a dynamic tapestry of personal expressions, innovations, and freedom to reinvent, learn and create without rules, without limits…Fluid and fearless, like a fragrance that refuses to be contained. True femininity is not dictated—it is discovered, felt, and lived with serenity in ways as diverse as those who embody it."

Isabella Weatherby

Founder of PEACHY DEN

“Feminine energy evokes an unrivalled sense of connection—when I’m surrounded by my girls, time ceases to exist and I am swept up in swirls of tenderness, creativity and silliness. There is no better feeling <3. Feminine energy also guides me on the beautiful journey of discovering what makes me unique and defining what I truly want from life - not what I am told to want. This is an especially powerful tool in the paradigm of the patriarchy of femininity, which is built to dictate how women should exist.”

Orlagh McCloskey

Creative Director and co-founder of RIXO

“Feminine energy, to me, is the ability to see the world through multiple lenses. There’s an innate strength in women, one that holds space for both compassion and resilience. True presence isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room, but about moving with quiet confidence, navigating life with grace, intention, and authenticity.”

Henrietta Rix

CEO and co-founder of RIXO

“Feminine energy I believe means having the confidence and security to just be you, dress for yourself, no one else. At Rixo, we believe it’s not defined by one look or mood; it’s the freedom to embrace every facet of yourself, whether that’s through vintage-inspired prints or a solid colour on a beautifully flattering silhouettes. True feminine energy is about authenticity and individuality, wearing what makes you feel like you.

Mary-Ann Dunkley

Design Director, Fabrics and Products at LIBERTY

“It’s easy to find extraordinary creative feminine energy in the Liberty design studio. Our daily work is a vibrant fusion of instinct, passion, discovery, and the ambition to craft textiles that enhance the lives of every woman who wears or surrounds herself with them. To me, positive feminine energy is intricately woven into the very fabric of the Liberty lifestyle.”

Gucci Westman

Founder of WESTMAN ATELIER

“My take on feminine energy for 2025 is all about the power of intuition and collaboration. Women have extraordinary reserves of creativity, empathy, and determination. We're driving exciting innovation in every aspect of lifestyle and culture, but there's also an uplifting sense of community and optimism between us. We're stronger, faster, more nimble, and more resourceful together. It's an empowering moment.”

Lyn Harris

Founder of PERFUMER H

“As women, we should be proud of being emotive – and instinctive. In business especially, that is everything, and we shouldn’t forget that.”

Marla Aaron

Founder of MARLA AARON

“I would say feminine energy is an utterly relentless kind of energy that doesn’t spend much time thinking about feminine energy. It’s too busy doing, making, caring for, organising, creating…making things happen.”

Marla Aaron

Lydia King

Group Buying and Merchandising Director at LIBERTY

“Possessing inner strength at the core, trusting your own wisdom and knowing your own sense of purpose and where to glean energy and happiness. Through knowing yourself this energy becomes transferrable in supporting and inspiring others.”

Berenika Stachera

Archive assistant at LIBERTY

“Liberty history, and therefore the Liberty archive, is full of amazing and inspiring women. From the anonymous seamstresses and embroiderers of the early Costume Department, the sweet and nostalgic florals of Mrs Stoneley, the funky paisleys of Susan Collier, all the way to the fantastical designs by Polly; there are plenty of examples of fantastic feminine energy inspiring beautiful work. In my job, I often look to the women of the past, so for me feminine energy means the strength to follow your ambitions and creative pursuits despite obstacles.”

Gabriela Chelariu

Principal perfumer at dsm-firmenich and creator of LIBERTY LBTY. Liberty Maze

"Feminine energy is the power to awaken, transform, and connect on the deepest level. It is intuition in motion—the ability to translate emotion into something tangible, like scent, which uplifts, transports, and inspires. To me, feminine energy is about bringing delight, creating moments of beauty, and making others feel seen and empowered."
