The New Season: Curated by Liberty
Spring, for all its blooming charms, is a fickle season in the UK. One moment you’re basking in the glow of April sunshine, the next an arctic wind flips your umbrella as the day’s latest deluge barrels by. Perhaps the mercury reaches the 20s. Perhaps there’s a blizzard: anything is possible. All this makes the March to May period somewhat challenging when it comes to the wardrobe.
Fear not, however, as Liberty has an expert on hand to answer five burning questions ahead of the new season. Here, the stylist behind the latest Liberty fashion campaign, Natasha Wray, shares the spring styling tips set to keep your wardrobe fresh into the new season and beyond.
What are the key trends you're seeing for the new season?
A joyful-ness, more colour, a lot of red, plaid. And a silk scarf worn in numerous ways.
Where do you start when you're building a look?
I start with the purpose of the outfit, what am I doing that day, where am I going. And also comfort. I'm a practical dresser, I have a simple uniform of jeans, wide and loose or straight and a black or navy jumper, shoes are always trainers for comfort on set and I walk a lot. I think people should wear what makes them feel happy and confident.
In the early spring - jackets and coats are still an essential how can you keep things fresh at the end of winter?
Adding in lighter layers under your coat, I loved how Miu Miu layered sporty jackets over smarter shirts or a blazer over a sporty zip funnel neck sweater.
What's one styling tip you'll be using as we head into spring?
Using silk scarves in a myriad of ways, a square silk scarf as a wristband, a bandana sized one as a necktie, a longer one as a belt or using it to wrap around the handle of a bag.
What are three tips for everyday styling that you'd like to see more people making use of?
I think people should wear what makes them feel good, be comfortable, of course experiment and try new shapes, but don't try to force a trend if it doesn't fit into your life.
