Liberty for Life Charity Initiative

Parade or no parade, for the whole of September, Liberty, for Life is supporting The Outside Project, the UK’s first LGBTIQ+ homeless shelter and community centre. We are giving you the opportunity to donate £1 with each sale online and in-store at any till point.

Through you, our wonderful Liberty community, we aim to support those within the LGBTIQ+ community who feel endangered, who are homeless (or ‘hidden’ homeless) and who fall outside of services due to historical and present prejudice in society and in their homes. The Outside Project has also opened a domestic abuse refuge for the LGBTIQ+ community in response to COVID-19.

Anti Slavery Day

In the UK alone, an estimated 1 in every 700 people are trapped in modern slavery, and the effects of COVID-19 are worsening an already critical situation. As part of our ongoing partnership with The Sophie Hayes Foundation, CEO Red Godfrey-Sagoo tells us why this is a cause that needs your support - promoting freedom for everyone, everywhere, always.

Freedom Quilt

For the 10th Anniversary of our long-term charity partner, Sophie Hayes Foundation, we’re bringing together the charity’s network of survivors of modern slavery to participate in the Freedom Quilt. The project marks 10 years dedicated to building the confidence and resilience of women survivors through coaching and skills development leading to education, employment, and independence.

Coming together as part of a launch event in August 2021, a special quilt will be sewn by the graduates of the Sophie Hayes programme across London, Manchester, and Birmingham. In the summer of 2022, each regional quilt will be stitched together to make one national Freedom Quilt which will go on exhibition later next year in London, before being permanently on display at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool. Each stitched square of the quilt will represent the personal emotions and artistic expression of each survivor’s past and future hopes and dreams – their personal journey to freedom.

The quilt will be created using fabrics from Liberty’s iconic quilting prints, allowing each sewing session to draw inspiration from an eclectic mix of floral, paisley, and geometric designs. Each session will be guided by quilting expert Jenni Smith, to support the quilt fabrications and sewing training.

The ambition for this quilt is to raise awareness of the barriers to sustainable freedom for thousands of women survivors of modern slavery in the UK, and to raise vital funds for Sophie Hayes Foundation to continue its mission of creating a better future for every woman survivor.

Sponsor & Donate

Sponsor a square or donate today and join us in creating this unique and historic survivor record that will help us raise awareness of the scale and breadth of modern slavery in the UK.

It is our belief that everyone should live in liberty. We are determined to help people find and sustain liberation by supporting them on a new life path through education, counselling and mentoring.

We looked at causes within our local community to ensure our efforts have a significant effect on individuals and independent programmes that are close to our heart. We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with The Sophie Hayes Foundation, where our collective support makes a big difference.

1000 Women is an important initiative to carry those women freed from slavery in the UK through to the next stage of their lives. Each programme is tailored to the individual case, led by The Sophie Hayes Foundation it only costs £1000 to empower one woman though to a life of Liberty.

Furthermore, Liberty are delighted to be working with Stonewall through its Diversity Champions programme, which supports to embed LGBT inclusivity across our organisation.

"We know that people perform better at work when they can be themselves, and that organisations like Liberty can be an important ally in the fight for equality for everyone"
