It’s official, the world’s most luxurious lip balm has joined the stellar line up of star products in our Beauty Hall of Fame
The Synopsis
Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm, £35 is lip balm done differently. From the outside, it’s beautiful, with its matte black casing and lid that snaps on with a satisfying magnetic click. But it's what’s on the inside that really excites. Expect a creamy, hydrating formula that delivers a sheer tint of colour, glazing lips in a juicy sheen. Yes, it sorts out dry, flaky lips, but it also does so much more – making that chapstick currently rolling around at the bottom of your bag feel a little lacklustre right now.
The Rise to Fame
This lip balm is just one excellent product to come out of Westman Atelier, the ‘consciously crafted’ makeup collection designed by celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman, whose clients include Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Anniston. It’s a brand loved for its superior, easy-to-use formulas (finger application is certainly de rigueur) and minimalist aesthetic. This lip balm is a nod to Westman’s time spent studying makeup in France, her take on the French Girl beauty aesthetic so many aspire to.
The Credentials
Squeaky clean by name, squeaky clean by nature. Gucci Westman is particularly rigorous when deciding which ingredients to include, and which to omit, and that extends to the formulation of this lip balm, too. The innovative gel-oil formula contains a blend of jojoba, almond and argan oils to hydrate, with shea butter as a skin-softener, thus providing lips with that soft, pillowy plumpness. The colour payoff is intentionally sheer – this is makeup that doesn’t require a mirror – and the formula comes in six shades, from an almost translucent pale pink to a richer red.
The Star Quality
Aside from looking like a piece of art, what sets this formula apart from your standard-issue lip balm is that it manages to funnel all the best bits of a balm, gloss, lip tint and lip oil into one (very chic) tube – with zero stickiness. And for that, Gucci, we applaud you.
