Prepare to fall in love with Liberty LBTY. Fragrance all over again, as a brand-new scent makes its debut at Liberty, ready to transport you to a languid summer’s afternoon.

This blissful new arrival is Tana Meadow, a clean, fruity and fresh musk, composed by legendary perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani and inspired by the exquisite fluidity of our signature Tana Lawn™ cotton.

As you await your first spritz, join us as we delve inside the bottle, and uncover the stories, places, ingredients and inspirations captured within this captivating creation.

The Inspiration

Beloved for its fluidity, lightness and exquisite quality, Tana Lawn™ cotton has been a Liberty Fabrics icon since it first appeared in our collections way back in the 1930s. Originally developed by cotton buyer William Hayes Dorell, the fabric takes its name from Lake Tana in Ethiopia, where its unique long-staple cotton fibres originated.

It is this textile that formed the inspiration for Tana Meadow, explains perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani. “[The scent] was inspired by the delicate composition of Liberty’s iconic cotton - the sheer softness of the fabric, the intricacy of the floral print, and the sense of lightness it carries,” he explains.

The Print

Atop each Liberty LBTY. Fragrance glass bottle, the vibrant printed cap ensures the fragrance is an artwork in its own right. On Tana Meadow, the cap is adorned with our florid Thorpe print: one of Liberty’s most popular print designs. Names after the floral paintings of earth 20th century artist John Hall Thorpe, it joined the Liberty print line-up in 1968 as an homage to 1930s botanical prints. Bursting with daisies, anemones, pinks and sweet Williams – it’s a timeless ode to the mercurial bliss of a summer meadow, much like Tana Meadow itself.

The Perfumer

As the nose behind Liberty LBTY. Fragrance’s verdant Adelphi Sun and co-composer of Wild Rosinda, Merati-Kashani is something of an expert when it comes to translating textiles and print into perfume.

His starting point for Tana Meadow? “I imagined walking through a meadow of summer blooms and brushed cotton, eyes closed, translating that feeling into scent,” he explains. “The result is a clean, modern scent- creamy vanilla and bright pear layered with a touch of ginger and pink pepper, resting on a bed of florals, soft musks and amber. It’s a fragrance that captures comfort, freshness, and the quiet joy of discovery.”

The Scent

With notes alluding to the fruity, the floral and the gourmand: Tana Meadow is a scent full of surprises. Captivating and complex, on first spritz the sparkling citrus dances and mingles with crisp green cypress, unfolding and melting into an amber glow of vanilla, orris, praline and musk. That’s not to mention the subtle freshness of pear and ginger, and the playful suggestion of coconut that will put you in mind of sophisticated summer evenings: sun-drenched, languid and serene.
