For Autumn/Winter 2020, the Liberty Fabrics designers created the Private View collection to represent an imaginary art gallery. Each ‘room’ of this gallery reflects a different element of Liberty’s artistic heritage – with the ‘Permanent Collection’ story celebrating Liberty’s archival collection of historic William Morris prints. Four Morris artworks have been vibrantly reimagined and repainted in our London studio, with the designer’s timeless Arts and Crafts motifs reinterpreted into fresh, contemporary iterations for the 21st century.

Forbidden Fruit

“Forbidden Fruit offers a tropical interpretation of Morris’s much-beloved Strawberry Thief artwork. Created using watercolour paints and pencils, this detailed design depicts tropical birds, blooming colourful flowers and citrus fruits.”

May Manor

“The watercolour design of May Manor draws inspiration from William Morris’s classic Evenlode artwork. Taken down in colour to create a soft tonal feel, May Manor features tulips climbing up the fabric, painted with soft watercolour textures.”

Elm House

“Inspired by William Morris’ Honeysuckle artwork, Elm House is a new interpretation that depicts primulas and fritillaries painted in soft watercolour. Emphasising the drama of the original repeat, florals and foliage are interwoven to create a swirling Arts and Crafts feel.”

Willow Walk and Montgomery

“Morris’s iconic Willow design sparked the inspiration for two new designs, Willow Walk and Mongomery. Informed by Morris’s edict that the ideal pattern should have “suggestions of gardens and fields”, both botanical designs are imbued with dramatic depth and movement, redrawn in the studio in textural and stitch-like fine liner pen.”
