What’s Your Interiors Personality?

Whether you’re drawn to graphic shapes, minimalist design or romantic details, find the pieces to match your personality in Liberty’s curation of homeware

Fashion-wise, what we wear is a form of communication with the outside world. Our clothes speak for us, sending wordless messages about who we are and what we like. Interiors are similarly expressive, but arguably more truthful in what they convey. For starters, you change your home far less frequently than you change your clothes. Plus, you can’t show it off unless you invite someone inside it. Even posting images of one’s space has a greater sense of intimacy, like getting a peek at someone’s true self. Why else do we rush to discover Architectural Digest’s latest tour? Or marvel at the interiors of historic houses, the lifestyles of their inhabitants frozen in time for us to enjoy? It’s this sense of intimacy that makes interiors so endlessly fascinating, and why synergy between your space and your self is so important.

The best homes are mirrors of the people who inhabit them, full of life and personality. From the bold to the witty to the romantic - here are some of the ones you’ll discover in Liberty’s home department this season.

New Romantic

We’ve all heard the saying, ‘Home is where the heart is’, and this is especially true when it comes to the likes of Marin Montagut and John Derian. French label Boncoeurs even has the French word in their name, a double entendre which alludes to the two sisters who founded it. What these brands have in common is a sense of bohemian romanticism, transporting us back to a time where artistry trumped speed and technology. These pieces appeal to someone who appreciates a time-worn, vintage feel, and loves nothing more than to fill their home with carefully crafted objects and decorations. Just look at Derian’s painstaking decoupage techniques, or Astier de Villate’s signature handmade porcelain pieces.

The Bold and the Beautiful

Bright and energising best describes this personality type - someone who loves to create a home that’s full of graphic shapes, prints and colours. Their shelves are heaving with design books, and they love to play with texture and form, pairing Jonathan Adler’s bright colours with Alessi’s crinkled metal dishes and Anya Hindmarch’s tongue-in-chic ‘Life’ collection. Interiors are loud and fun, and designed for entertaining. In this house, the drinks cabinet is always fully stocked - ready to serve cocktails in colourful Zafferano glasses. The morning after the night before, they’ll be sipping coffee brewed in a Dolce & Gabbana x Bialetti pot.

The Modernist

Taking inspiration from the elegant forms and minimalist design of the Scandinavian school, this homemaker is focused on artful details with an emphasis on craftsmanship, harmony and balance. That doesn’t mean they’re averse to colour - gentle pastels and unique glassware pair well with organic materials (which their home is full of). For decoration, pops of colour and interesting shapes add warmth to an otherwise simple space. They love a conversation piece, which stands out against the sleek design of their home. Their space will always feel warm, stylish and convivial - much like their favourite brands: HAY, &Klevering, Soho Home et al.

Gaia’s Garden

This personality is all about bringing the outside in, gravitating towards objects inspired by the flora and fauna of Mother Nature. Plants weave across ceramics and animals peek out from prints and patterns. Upholstery is festooned with Liberty florals, transforming every room into a lush garden. Forage around in this home and you’ll likely discover a mushroom table mat from Avenida Home, a Radicchio tray from Les Ottomans or a banana leaf pitcher from Bordallo Pinhero.
