The Rise to Fame
She might not need an introduction, but Lisa Eldridge is a prestigious makeup artist respected the world over, or in other words, the magic hands behind some of popular culture’s most iconic makeup looks and pervasive trends. Her point of difference, besides her meticulous attention to detail and signature fresh and dewy aesthetic, is her obsession with the history of beauty. In fact, she’s hosted documentaries and written books on the subject, and now, with her own eponymous brand, she’s taken the best bits of beauty gone by and translated them to suit the modern makeup wearer. In product terms, that means highly efficacious formulas that do exactly what you want them to – and better still, they’re a joy to use.
The Credentials
Ask any beauty editor, and they’ll tell you about the (somewhat unofficial) tests by which we put all new lipstick launches through their paces. First, the 'swipeability', or rather how well the bullet passes over the lips. True Velvet passes with flying colours; there’s zero drag, but rather an even and ample deposit of colour. The finish gets top marks, too. It’s matte, but not flat. Creamy but no cloying. Highly pigmented, but easy to get right. Consider all your lipstick bugbears, sorted.
