Embrace Complete Colour With A Liberty Kaleidoscope

Embark on the most vivid journey of all with our Spring/Summer 2024 fabric collection: A Liberty Kaleidoscope, available in-store and online now

As you look through the kaleidoscope with every twist and turn a new pattern and new colour emerges. And if you think about it, life itself is a bit like a kaleidoscope, the pattern of our lives constantly changing with rhythmic harmony. For Spring/Summer 2024, the Liberty Fabrics designers have embarked on the most vivid journey of all – venturing through the rainbow into a prismatic universe of colour, examining the cultural, natural and historical components that make up the light and shade of everything around us, taking us into the heart of each hue. Meet: A Liberty Kaleidoscope.

“Colour is the place where our brain and the universe meet.”

– Paul Cézanne

Practical and emotive, subjective yet universal, the artistic application has fascinated humanity (and Liberty) forever. And, like with a kaleidoscope, the in-house team have delved deep into the archive to reframe and refract archival designs in new, uninterrupted colour. In this collection, split into four compelling stories, our Liberty Fabrics designers explore the multi-hued spectrum as well as the three primary colours: red, blue and yellow.

First, they explored the magic of the rainbow – all the way from early scientific colour theory to the beauty of vibrant natural phenomena. Then, they met with the very first human art colour: Red. An enduring symbol of passion and vitality, rich pigments were employed to reflect the beauty of natural dyes used in the Indian chintzes of Liberty’s early heritage. Classic Liberty-style roses were reimagined, appearing alongside other beauties of the natural world: scarlet macaws, coral and anemones, while floral motifs glow like the posies clutched by Pre-Raphaelite muses.

Next they delved into Blue, where air and water echo in an endless horizon. This story discovers Blue as a jewel-like droplet wherever it appears: delicate hydrangea blossoms, sparkling semi-precious stones. An endless muse to artists, Blue’s presence in the world of craft is felt in designs from classic chinaware and early Arts and Crafts dyeing techniques.

Finally, they find themselves caught in Yellow’s warm and optimistic glow. Examining the joyful spirit of this complex and multifaceted colour, from pretty primulas and primroses to lemons, bees and buttercups; Yellow has an infectious attitude for positivity, happiness and devotion. All are interconnected, appearing across prints and palettes chosen to reflect Liberty’s historic studio and archive.

Join us in immersing yourself with kaleidoscopic colour, unlike anything we’ve done before.
