The Jewellery Trends to Know this Autumn/Winter
From ancient treasures to alternative pearls, the Liberty Jewellery Hall is full of irresistible treats
By: Team LibertyEach season, our buyers set out with the same spirit of curiosity that guided Liberty’s founder, Arthur Lasenby, seeking out treasures and trinkets to bring back to our Tudor flagship. Their discoveries can be found on the Ground Floor, where you’ll find everything from dazzling engagement rings to playful charms, and even a piercing bar. If you’re in need of some inspiration on what to wear this season, here’s a peek at four emerging trends set to dominate this autumn/winter. From vintage-inspired heirlooms to unusual pearls and floral creations, discover the brands combining unbridled creativity with the artisanal craftsmanship that makes Liberty’s jewellery edit unbeatable.
Alternative Pearls
A string of pearls, often passed down from one generation to the next, is something of a jewellery rite of passage. And while the allure and chicness of the timeless pearl necklace can never be understated, we’d like to argue that we’re not wearing pearls nearly enough. Unlike traditional stones prized for their polish and symmetry, there’s something magnetic about the texture and irregularity of a pearl. This season, designers are leaning into that unevenness, setting pearls in chunkier, sculptural pieces that fuse their heirloom quality with modern forms. Turn to Mateo , Missoma and our very own Liberty collection to discover the ways to wear pearls now.
Gardens Galore
Nature has long inspired jewellery designers and this season, some of our favourite names seem to be writing love letters to the most verdant gardens. Capturing the spirit of a blossoming bouquet is our very own Liberty collection, bringing a romantic, feminine feel to classic silhouettes. Alex Monroe emulates twisting and uneven botanical shapes and textures while Annoushka pays homage to the swooping, alluring form of the tulip. When the weather drains our surroundings of lush, blossoming gardens, adorn yourself in them instead.
Mixing Metals
It’s one of those long-standing fashion rules – like wearing navy and black together or avoiding white in winter – that you should remain loyal to either silver or gold, and nary the two shall meet. However, at Liberty, we’re partial to a bit of artistic rule-breaking, and recent jewellery trends seem to agree. Whether opting for pieces that incorporate mixed metals by design, a la Spinelli Kilcollin and Missoma, or choosing to layer necklaces or rings in varying shades, this is a trend that looks effortlessly stylish – plus, it allows you to pile on more jewellery, which we’re all for.
Antique Allure
Feeling nostalgic? Us too. Emerging trends see designers looking to days gone by to inspire their new collections. Whether a talismanic touch or a retro playfulness, names like Marie Lichtenberg and Lucy Delius are creating collections of vintage-inspired modern heirlooms that fuse traditional forms with a contemporary spin. Despite spotting the trend on runways and street-stylers alike, curating a collection of pieces that stand the test of time cuts right to the heart of Liberty’s artistic collector spirit.
