This week’s note comes from Charlotte Semler, co-founder of Verden, the brand behind the Herbanum Hand Cream hidden in one of this year’s advent calendar drawers.
Founded by Semler alongside Arabella Preston, the duo are also behind the skincare brand Votary, and focus on natural ingredients, potent formulas and captivating scents in all their products.

How would describe the brand in one sentence?
Verden means ‘the Earth’ in Danish. It’s a natural fragrance brand for bath, body and home.
What’s one thing you’ve learned you launched the brand, that you wish you had known sooner?
Our customers love Verden reed diffusers. We should have launched them sooner.
Why did you create the Herbanum Hand Cream?
Our natural fragrances that reconnect you with nature and make you feel great. We created these cute hand creams to allow you to carry Verden fragrance with you wherever you go and whatever you do.
This Herbanum fragrance smells of herbs and wild grasses - just squeeze some onto your hands, rub in and take a moment to breathe in the natural fragrance. It’s a brilliant, on the go reset!
What’s your favourite thing about the product?
I find the fragrance relaxes and centres me. It reminds me to breathe deeply and makes me feel great.
Do you have any expert tips, or favourite ways to apply it?
At the start of your meditation, breathwork or yoga practice, smooth this cream over your hands and hold them in front of your face. Breathe deeply and inhale the fragrance. It’s instantly grounding.
When it comes to advent calendars: are you an “open all at once” or a “strictly one day at a time” person?
