A Stitch in Time: The Inspirations Behind the Design. Nature. Art Fabrics Collection
Where creativity, imagination and artistic expression bloom in unison: delve into Liberty Fabrics’ autumn winter 2026 collection
By: Team Liberty
For generations, Liberty's print designers have drawn inspiration from the natural world, translating botanical forms, flowers and landscapes into distinctive patterns that have become as much a part of Liberty’s identity as its Tudor building. This autumn/winter, Liberty Fabrics’ new collection reflects that enduring connection between design, nature and art.
Inspired by the changing seasons and the cycles of growth and renewal found in nature, the collection explores the beauty of transformation. Inspired by the rhythms of the garden and featuring the gardeners of Great Dixter House & Gardens in the campaign, Design. Nature. Art by Liberty Fabrics celebrates the gradual processes of preparing, nurturing and tending that shape both the natural world and creative practice.
Through layered prints and thoughtful craftsmanship, the collection examines the relationship between creativity and cultivation, revealing how observation, care and time can give rise to something lasting. Divided into three chapters, the collection explores the connections between history, imagination and artistic expression, each rooted in the enduring influence of the natural world.
Gallery Garden
Gallery Garden explores the significance of verdant spaces throughout history. From the structured linearity of Egyptian gardens to ornate friezes of Roman wall gardens and Eden-like ideals, the Gallery Garden heroes an evolution of garden aesthetics. Medieval manuscript borders, surreal compositions, and Persian miniature gardens are complemented by serene Japanese zen gardens, introducing a juxtaposition of energy and tranquillity. Each design is a study of structure and form, ideology and beauty, cultivated through the ages.
Painted Garden
Painted Garden is a study of the vibrant fusion of colour, pattern and texture in garden landscapes that inspired artists, celebrating the spaces where art and nature meet. The luscious, stippling impressions of meadow flowers contrast with the striking vibrance of geometric exteriors, and the brilliant tactility of Post-Impressionist landscapes. The seamless interplay of organic sculptural forms with delicate floral elements captures the complex relationship between artistic expression and the natural world.
Story Garden
Story Garden transcends the physical into spaces of imagination, mindfulness, and escapism. From the mythic Hanging Gardens of Babylon to Shakespeare’s romantic floral settings and even historic pleasure grounds and wartime victory gardens, this chapter chronicles the narratives that are woven through and around cultivated botanical spaces. The whimsical magic of a secret garden and healing spaces teeming with restorative plants emphasise the intricate relationship between nature and wellbeing, highlighting humanity’s necessity for community and finding solace through nature.
