For Spring/Summer 2022, Liberty Fabrics takes us on a journey through layers of fantastical worlds – an adventure into the vibrant realm of the imagination, celebrating the magic of the strange and unexpected.
For this collection, the Liberty Fabrics designers focus on the art of storytelling. The three chapters of the story are ‘Literature’, ‘Music’ and ‘Theatre’: a feast for the senses, woven through with a vivid narrative of creativity and escapism. Together these three stranded stories combine into a magical collection where nothing is ever quite as it seems – read on to discover the behind-the-scenes story, direct from our in-house Liberty designers in the London studio.
Myths, legends, folklore, fairy tales and fantasy – in all their forms, stories have the power to transport us into other worlds. We wanted to harness the creativity of story writing, to inspire us to create our own magic.
We drew inspiration from enchanted landscapes where animals talk and fairies flutter, and things may not be quite as they first appear.
SHOP THE LITERATURE STORY
Lyrics have the power to move you beyond yourself, by drawing you into a heightened sense of reality. Words combined with a melody have a sense of colour and movement – inspired by them, we can create our own visual interpretation of the world.
We celebrate the unique vision and creative singularity of musical eccentrics, and the worlds they build for themselves through costumes, lyrics and album covers – a fun, playful and vividly colourful story.
SHOP THE MUSIC STORY
For this story, we were inspired by the world of theatre in its many forms – a fascinating world of storytelling, with architecture, costumes, sets, lighting and visual tricks used as an exciting and challenging source of inspiration.
Fashion and haute couture itself is the very epitome of theatre, from the drama of the catwalk to the visual way fashion and windows are displayed.
