For the Autumn/Winter 2021 collection, Liberty Fabrics celebrates the excellence and eclecticism of modern craft, from the artisan’s techniques to the beautiful objects they create. Told through four stories – Bohemian, Stately, Modernist and Folk – the collection reflects the exquisite craftsmanship of decorative arts, from brocade and gilt to sculpture, pottery and weaving. The New Collectables explores the beauty and individuality of artisanal designs, and the creative people who bring them to life.

The collection draws inspiration from the home as a reflection of its inhabitant, where each carefully chosen piece offers a fragment of a memory or experience. Our Liberty Fabrics designers were inspired by the breadth of individuality within both contemporary and historic homes – drawing from the Liberty archive as well as painting exquisite new artworks in the studio by hand, for each of the collection’s four central stories.

BOHEMIAN

The Bohemian story focuses on the home of the artist, the writer and the musician. An eclectic clash of cultures and inspirations, this abode features pieces collected from extensive travel for a romantic, faded glamour.

A mixture of patterns is provided by flamboyant geometric scarves, exquisitely crafted rugs and vibrant paisleys. Expressive florals drawn in oil pastel and elegant botanicals express a colourful, free-spirited lifestyle.

STATELY

The Stately story is characterised by luxury and maximalism – home to the aristocrat and the collector, this 18th century aesthetic is inspired by classical opulence.

With rich brocade, gilt leaf, stucco and delicate marble inlay, this story takes influence from pieces collected on the Grand Tour, as well as from the floral displays of high-drama, photorealistic Dutch paintings.

MODERNIST

The Modernist story belongs to the curator – one who appreciates the integrity of craftmanship, minimalism and the space for calm reflection.

Designers were inspired by mid-century art and sculpture, with references to archival linocut designs, geometric patterned ceramics, and striking sculptures by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.

FOLK

The Folk story showcases the spirit of the artisan crafter and maker, with found, foraged and hand-made objects provide soft textures and natural forms.

This nostalgic story features delicately drawn blossoms and berries, woven blankets depicted in inky washes, and decorative Nordic painting techniques.
