Inspired by a family photo album from before she was born, Maya Njie's fragrances bottle the spirit connected to the classic 1970's Scandinavian idyll, combined with the soul of her esoteric Gambian heritage. Blended, bottled and labelled in her London studio, Vanilj identifies as Nordic Cedar's sweeter, more softly spoken sibling, based on the traditional Swedish combination of vanilla and cardamom. Spiced, earthy notes of cedarwood and patchouli are tamed by vanilla – spiking the elixir with a deliciously boozy bourbon facet.

Tapping into the notion of synaesthesia, Maya interprets found family photographs through personal fragrance – bottling the spirit connected to the classic 1970's Scandinavian idyll combined with the soul of her esoteric Gambian heritage. Handcrafted in small batches in the perfumer’s London studio, these contemporary, genderless fragrances are infused with a comforting measure of nostalgia.
