COLLECTION
For the Imperial War Museum collection, the Liberty design studio partnered with the Imperial War Museum, art historian Ester Cohen, and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, an Iranian-British dual citizen who was detained in Iran as part of a long-running dispute between Britain and Iran. The collection inspires to tell the stories of those who tackle the complexities of war and incarceration through art and creativity. The designers relied on Nazanin’s personal recollections of her time in prison, as well as the historians at the IWM to the personal, but often universal stories of those who have been affected by conflict. Combining Nazanin’s stories with elements from the Liberty archive as well as the IWM’s Collection, the Liberty design studio created three designs rich with detail and symbolism.
This richly detailed, Arts and Crafts conversational design consists of a rigid structure occasionally interrupted by small details. Representative of the repetitive days of imprisonment broken up by the changing seasons, gliding white doves symbolise freedom while the Cypress trees represent resilience. Alongside all the natural elements, there are glimpses of the roofs of buildings, suggesting the obscured vision of the outside world from within the prison walls.
Our Tana Lawn™ cotton is a fabric built by obsession, perfected into a modern masterpiece of production through a bespoke process that has evolved over a century. Printed in our own Liberty Printing Mill in northern Italy, Tana realises unmatchable fluidity with a silk-like touch, unique print quality and striking colour vibrancy. Machine washable and durable enough for daily wear, it is perfect for both simple separates and spectacular statement pieces.
