People

Our people are as unique as our designs. We strive to create an inclusive workplace where everyone at Liberty can thrive.

An incredibly talented team of around 600 people help our business succeed – from our designers and buyers to the retail staff who serve our customers at the flagship Liberty London store.

We work in partnership with all our people to help them meet their long-term goals. We encourage them to grow with us through tailored development opportunities that support their individual journey.

Staff wellbeing comes first, with free access to confidential medical guidance and emotional support. We pay our employees a Living Wage and provide competitive benefits.

Championing Diversity Through Our Equality Movement

Liberty’s designs and products draw from and celebrate cultures from all over the world. As a global design house, we pride ourselves in our ability to understand and relate to the uniqueness of individual customers.

We strive to bring this cultural competence into the workplace too. We have implemented a diversity survey which we encourage all employees to complete to ensure that our internal demographic reflects our customer demographic and the wider world. We also use the survey to monitor equal opportunities and pay across all groups, including gender, ethnicity, and different sexual orientations. Everyone at Liberty must complete training to tackle unconscious bias.

Our Equality Movement leads activities to promote diversity and create an inclusive environment at Liberty. Reporting directly to our CEO, it’s run by a dynamic team of employees representing diverse genders, ethnic backgrounds and roles across the business.

Regular discussions run by the Equality Movement aim to get our people thinking about diversity, share their experiences with colleagues, and drive action that makes a lasting contribution to diversity and equality for employees and customers.

Liberty Staff Holding Fabric

“Our mission is to make Liberty an open-minded and equitable place to work, where we can stand proud of our company’s position of anti-discrimination and anti-prejudice. Through curiosity about the many cultures we touch and are comprised of we will keep at the forefront of cultural competence.”

- Omar Bogle, Liberty System Administrator / Support Team Leader and Chair of Equality Movement

Rewarding Our Staff

Rewarding our team goes beyond salary alone. We have recently launched a new benefits platform to support our people through all life’s turns and to recognise their life milestones.

Liberty Store

Our enhanced maternity and paternity policies, income protection in the event of serious illness, life assurance and pension scheme are designed to help our colleagues take on everything that comes their way.

We offer a generous holiday allowance and a staff discount of up to 35% off retail prices. In addition, our employees get access to financial and mortgage advice and shopping discounts across a range of products and services. And to make the journey into work easier, we offer season ticket loans, as well as a cycle to work scheme to promote fitness and health.

On top of the healthcare plans we offer staff in certain roles, we provide all employees with access to services to help our people stay well.

Helping Our People Stay Well

At Liberty, staff wellbeing comes first.

Everyone at Liberty has access to an online GP service that can provide same day medical advice and support, including a prescription service. Video or phone appointments are available 24/7 worldwide. We also offer a dental plan, eye test vouchers and winter flu vaccinations.

Liberty Staff with Liberty Fabric

We partner with the Retail Trust to provide confidential emotional and financial support. Through the Retail Trust’s personalised wellness hub, employees can access resources designed specifically for people working in the retail sector. The hub covers everything from mental health and wellbeing to career and lifestyle, helping individuals take charge and decide what’s important.

The Covid-19 pandemic brought home the importance of health and wellbeing for people around the world. We’ve worked hard to make sure our staff have felt connected and supported throughout with video updates from our leaders and wellbeing check-in calls with vulnerable employees, in addition to our regular support services.

We also raise awareness of mental health during the UK’s Mental Health Awareness Week each May.

“The health and wellness of our people is important to us and we always strive to support them in the best way possible. We are proud to be a partner of the retailTRUST organisation, which helps businesses to provide their employees with access to emotional and financial support, privately and confidentially.”
