Editor's Notes

A contemporary take on a classic design, Japanese label Beams Plus updates the classic knitted polo jumper in the form of this striped sweater. Knitted from 12-gauge wool, this tonal blue jumper features a vertical striped, gradient pattern. Inspired by knitted styles of the ‘50s, it’s complete with traditional polo trimmings, including a piped collar, short placket and ribbed detailing across its cuffs and hem.

Beginning life in the late ‘70s as a boutique in the youth culture-obsessed Harajuku district of Tokyo, BEAMS is now a considerable Japanese retail force. In 1999 it launched its men’s line BEAMS PLUS, successfully amalgamating the diverse references that inform its contemporary designs. Youthful Americana abounds across preppy knits and striped long-sleeve tees, workwear influences are seen in the worn denim and flannel button-downs, and the camo prints and polished bombers hint at the uniformity of military uniforms.
