Brilliant Ideas for your Next Night In

Need new date night ideas? Home alone with nothing to do? Enter our guide to making the most of your evening

By: Sophie Beresiner

If you haven’t embraced the fact that staying in is the new going out by now then good for you, order another expensive drink at the bar and continue to redistribute your weight from one beautifully uncomfortable heel to the other. I really do salute you, because something happened to me over the last few years (age, the slowdown, the gradual inclination towards slippers and sweats) that means my night in comes with bells on. FOMO doesn’t come into the equation when you have enough night in ideas like these to get the party started...

Girls Night In

Needn’t restrict yourself to girls of course, it’s just colloquialism. Tonight is for fun, not fine dining, so I suggest creating an indoor picnic vibe. Create an obvious zone by covering your rug/carpet/wood floor with a beautiful blanket, then scatter your biggest cushions for lounging. Requirements: a central ‘floorfood’ platter for sharing. I suggest camembert tear and share – absolute crowd pleaser, best eaten informally.

Date Night In

People book hotel rooms for special occasions, but I’m here to tell you to special occasion your bedroom instead and save your money for important things like shopping at Liberty. Think of it as the physical space equivalent of roleplay. How to give your room a hotel-over? Room service!

Solo Night In

There is nothing better than an excuse not to cook, an invitation from your sofa to give it your full attention for an entire evening. A solid plan to catch up on the trash TV because you don’t need to pretend to be more cerebral ce soir. Tonight calls for self care, that means planning a bath as if it were a dinner menu. What will you add, salts or bubbles? And the in-bath entertainment? An excellent book, a glass of wine and a lit candle will do nicely. Then the robe, ahh the robe! I’m looking forward to mine already.

Movie Night In

Set the right mood by setting a dress code; I’m calling it Sleep-casual. ‘Save for best’ pyjamas are compulsory and cosy socks encouraged. Set a time for the film to start and put your phone in another room so you’re not tempted to multi-screen, otherwise you’ll never get lost in the story like you would at the cinema. Replace the traditional paper popcorn holders with an especially impactful bowl. The bolder-the-better, this is a big night in after all.

Craft Night In

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but we at Liberty are somewhat obsessed with crafting. There is something so wholesome about dedicating your downtime to the DIY creation of something lovely. Whether it's creating your own shirt from scratch, quilting or embroidering your initials into the pocket of your jeans, there's real joy to be found within each of these artisan crafts and they're all the better when experienced with friends.
