Community

We partner with charities to support our communities.

Liberty’s respected brand, products, store and online retail presence provide a strong platform to raise awareness and funds for our charity partners.

It’s long been part of the Liberty mission to shine a light on important yet underrepresented causes. We champion these causes through our social media, online articles, the annual Liberty Book and promotions in our flagship London store. We run campaigns to encourage customers to donate to our charity partners in store and online, and we also donate the proceeds of specially designed products and fundraising activities.

We prioritise support for small charities that align with our business values and have a focus on craft or design. We ask people from across the business to help us select causes close to their hearts and offer opportunities for staff to get involved in our fundraising efforts.

Supporting Children in Poverty and Crisis

Feed London is the important initiative from Miracles, the UK charity working to support children (and their families) living in poverty and facing moments of crisis. It’s on a mission to end school holiday hunger, helping over-stretched families by supplying food boxes at a time when they need it most.

Throughout the whole of 2023 and 2024, Liberty is honoured to help support the incredible work of this organisation through our Liberty, for Life initiative, offering Liberty customers an opportunity to donate to this important and timely cause. Plus, look out for other fundraising initiatives throughout the two-year period.

“Freedom from hunger is a human right. All young Londoners need good, fresh food, whatever their circumstances.”

"We asked our employees to nominate a deserving cause and, of the many charities we considered, it was Miracles Feed London that stood out. Feed London is doing incredible work in some of the most deprived boroughs of our city; they are embedded in the communities they work in and are small enough for our efforts to have a tangible impact. We’re honoured to partner with Feed London for 2023 and look forward to supporting them in as many ways as we can."

Helping slavery survivors gain Liberty, for Life

Liberty, for life is a sentiment close to our hearts. And we want to make this fundamental human right a reality for survivors of modern slavery.

That’s why we partnered with the Sophie Hayes Foundation to support 1,000 women who had survived modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK. The project aimed to help them gain the confidence, resilience and skills that would help them rebuild their lives.

We raised awareness and funds by offering lovers of Liberty Fabrics a unique opportunity to name one of our iconic Liberty prints that would live on in our archive forever. All proceeds went to The Sophie Hayes Foundation.

We also supported the creation of a Freedom Quilt, using Liberty’s iconic fabrics, to mark the start of the charity’s second decade. Each square was created by a woman survivor of modern slavery to embody their past and future hopes and dreams. The completed squares were stitched together to form a 7.5m2 quilt that was displayed at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool.

“We have survivors, but rescue does not mean freedom. Freedom comes from independence and independence comes from employability. When we have supported our first 1,000 women, we will continue to the next 1,000 and then the next 1,000, so that each one can live and work without fear.”

Supporting Sight, for Life

Appreciating the detail of beautiful design is something many of us take for granted. But poor vision can rob children of this pleasure – and hamper their ability to read and learn.

Girl wearing Liberty dress and glasses

We partnered with The National Literacy Trust on a campaign that emphasised the importance of nurturing your sight, for life. Our goal was to normalise regular eye testing as an important step to improving learning and literacy. With one in five children thought to suffer from undiagnosed vision problems, getting glasses can transform their learning experience.

We designed a collection of Liberty eyewear that’s still available free for children in Specsavers across the UK through the NHS testing and lenses service. The frames are stylish and robust, decorated with colourful Liberty prints designed with kids in mind.
