We are delighted to introduce I AM. WE ARE. LIBERTY. by Ester Coen - a collector’s edition designed to transport readers into the lesser-seen corners of Liberty’s rich creative world. As part of Liberty’s 150th anniversary, journey through the archives of our iconic Design Studio and uncover new historical and cultural perspectives alongside the well-known and much-loved prints and fabrics that reveal Liberty to be more than an enterprise, more than a store, and more than a design company.
Unlike a traditional book, this publication is showcased as an ‘exhibition in a box’ - an immersive experience that follow the footsteps of Marcel Duchamp’s La Boîte-en-valise and Andy Warhol’s Index, allowing Liberty followers all over the world to share in the scope of the landmark celebration without even visiting the London store.
Housed in a keepsake cloth-bound box, adorned in trademark Liberty prints, it mirrors the layered experience of the exhibition. Within, readers will find a treasure trove of publications and objects that relate to the various histories, collaborations and rich Liberty archive materials involved, from historic photographs of Arthur Lasenby Liberty and his wife Emma’s journey to Japan in 1889, to postcards, temporary tattoos of Liberty designs, stickers of the Pentagram-designed font and a cut out 3D model of the exhibition designed by the vPPR group.
