Astier de Villatte
Oulan Bator Incense Sticks
Editor's Notes
Astier de Villatte’s incense sticks evoke the distinctive characters of a variety of different destinations around the world – an effective way to imbue spaces with a lingeringly atmospheric scent.
The capital of Mongolia sprawls between mountains and forests, entrancing viewers with its wealth of diverse sensory experiences – but the wild, desolate beauty of the desert steppe calls from far beyond the city. The fragrance of these artisanally-made incense sticks captures the essence of nomadic encampments under wide open skies, with wisps of tobacco, leather, ambergris, and angelica root essence.
“We ask people to produce with a good spirit so the pieces look almost alive.”
Benoît Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli, Astier founders
