Classic Arts and Crafts motifs, intricate detail and rich hues populate our new fabric capsule, conceptualised and designed in the Liberty Fabrics’ studio as part of our collaboration with the William Morris Gallery - here printed onto silk for a vibrant finish. Adding another chapter to the storied history between our two brands, for The Art of Craft collection the designers have taken inspiration from May Morris - daughter of William Morris - a lesser known yet important part of the Arts and Crafts Movement as an embroidery and jewellery designer and maker. Featuring an entirely new print created especially for this collection as well as archival William Morris designs and past patterns that were inspired by him – this collection invites you to delve into the Arts and Crafts style which heroes nature and motifs created by hand, reinvigorated though the influence of a previously overlooked figure.
Standen was adapted from the William Morris ‘Sunflower’ wallpaper, originally created and block printed in 1879. Rescaled and recoloured by the Liberty Studio in 2018, this large-scale rendition glows in richly saturated colour. Decorative details incorporate a mesmerising combination of vine leaves, grapes, tulips, and of course, glorious sunflowers.
The design is printed by experts in Italy onto our elegant, reflective 16 momme Belgravia silk satin – a fabric prized for its lustrous drape and fluidity, along with its luminously high-shine surface. Construct it into eveningwear pieces such as sheath gowns, or use it to create opulently wearable daytime designs like wrap dresses and flowing shirting.
