Mary Kathryn Lasenby Cotton
This print was part of our Name A Liberty Print initiative – where Liberty customers were invited to become a part of Liberty history by naming a print that will now live forever within our world-famous design archive, in partnership with the ‘1000 Women’ initiative lead by Sophie Hayes Foundation to support survivors of modern slavery.
The very first versions of this print were discovered in several Liberty archive books dating from around the 1920s. Reimagined in a myriad of techniques, layouts, colourways and fabric bases over the years, Mary Kathryn has proven to be a true heritage icon for Liberty Fabrics, reminiscent of the elegant peacock feathers painted during the Aesthetic movement of the late 19th century. The design appears on our Lasenby base – created especially for quilting, this soft cotton is suitable for a range of creative projects, including bedspreads, cushions and cosies. It is machine washable and durable enough for daily use, with each richly coloured design created using traditional screen-printing techniques.

Inspired by the wonder and escapism of The Artist’s Home – a reflection on eclecticism and colour, filled with vibrant details to spark inspiration. Our designers drew influence from historic creative retreats including Charleston Farmhouse, a romantic countryside escape famed for its hand-painted decorative interiors, as well as Yves Saint Laurent’s idyllic Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, and Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture studio and gardens on the dramatic Cornish coast.
