Editor's Notes

Designed to accompany the exhibition Grayson Perry: Delusions of Grandeur at the Wallace Collection, the ‘I know who I am’ mug is an iconic, idiosyncratic addition to your breakfast table.

The maximalist design of this mug is inspired by the title and visual detail of one of the hero pieces in the show, an appliqued bedspread entitled I know who I am, 2024. The artwork was created by Sir Grayson Perry’s fictional artist alter-ego for the exhibition, Shirley Smith, who designed the bedspread for her own domestic recreation of the Wallace Collection. The message, ‘I know who I am’, conveys Shirley’s unquestioning confidence in herself and raises one of the key themes of the show, that of self-identity.
