COLLECTION
In celebration of 150 years of Liberty, ‘From the Studio’ for AW25 stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the London design house. Paying homage to the dedicated artisanship that Liberty has been renowned for since the opening of its Regent Street flagship in 1875, this collection explores the creatives who have shaped the story so far. Divided into three distinct narratives – Craftsmanship, Collaboration, and Collectibles – ‘From the Studio’ unveils design sketches and archival studies, shedding light on Liberty ’s innovative artistic practice. This collection reveals the journey from inspiration through drawing, painting, and experimenting with digital artwork to the final printed textile.
Created using the artwork of Botanical Knot, this radiant rose print celebrates Liberty’s needlework department of the 1900s, which sold many designs in the style of May Morris, one of the most prominent designers and embroiderers at the time. Drawing from her characteristic Arts & Crafts style, Embroidered Botanical was hand-painted in gouache and layered with pencil marks to replicate the intricate stitches found in May’s embroideries. This print is part of the anniversary collection’s final chapter, Collectibles. Offering a design for each decade, this timeline of hero prints encapsulates 150 years - exploring the design house’s varied and influential handwriting while honouring key moments of creativity and discovery.
The design is printed by experts at our own Liberty Printing Mill in northern Italy onto classic cotton poplin. An attractive woven fabric with a pleasant hand feel and rich yarn construction, this poplin is characterised by the comfort and breathability that makes it perfect to wear in all seasons. Use Piccadilly poplin to create classic shirts and blouses in timeless cuts, or experiment with lightweight dresses and skirts for carefree appeal.
