“I used to always go out to my grandmother and spend the night before Christmas (which is the 24th in Denmark) at her place. I would wrap the last presents at hers sometimes using wrapping paper she saved from the year before. We ate at five and watched telly, an old film or football. We would eat a cheese toast at exactly 9 o’clock, stuff our faces with vanilla butter bisquits that she and my mom always baked, and head to bed early.”

“My Christmas rituals are wine, wrapping gifts, whiskey and a winter walk! This year I’ll be up in Scotland, hopefully with lots of snow, cuddled up cosy inside with the fire on, Christmas music playing, plenty of mulled wine and some veggie haggis - surrounded by my lovely family. It’s my daughter Joni Rose’s first Christmas, which makes it an extra special one.”

founder, Votary

“We always read 'The Night Before Christmas' to the children, usually sitting in front of the fire and all the hung stockings. Every year we seem to catch a glimpse of Father Christmas arriving in the garden. It's amazing how quickly everyone under the age of 10 disappears to bed once he's been spotted!”
