The Story of Le Creuset in Five Pieces
The cast iron creations that define 100 years of culinary creativity.

Glance at the stove-top of any kitchen afficionado and, chances are, there’s one brand that will sit pride of place. With its distinctive vibrant shades and signature bold silhouettes – not to mention its unmatched reputation for quality – Le Creuset’s creations are aesthetic and practical in equal measure.
Long before the brand became a must-have kitchen addition for creative foodies, the brand was busy refining the pieces that have since become its signatures. Founded in 1925 in the French town of Fresnoy-le-Grand, where the brand’s foundry remains to this day, the name is derived from the French for “the crucible”, the melting pot into which cast iron is poured in the creation of each vessel.
To chart the brand’s story, the brand’s commercial lead, George Mann, shared the five pieces that best capture the brand’s history, values and heritage.
Signature Cast Iron 24cm Round Casserole in Volcanic
“In 1925 our founders, Armand Desaegher and Octave Aubecq, perfected a glazing process that coated cast iron in a layer of premium colourful enamel. The result of which was an entirely new way of thinking about cookware, delivering exceptional performance, versatility and beauty, attributes which continue to define Le Creuset today. Our iconic Round Casserole, or Dutch Oven, in our signature Volcanic colour was the first enamelled colour to be introduced. Inspired by the molten cast iron from which it is forged, no other piece is quite as synonymous with Le Creuset’s heritage and craftsmanship as this piece."
Signature Cast Iron 30cm Shallow Casserole in Meringue
“Every piece of Le Creuset’s cast iron is hand crafted by more than 15 artisans in our Fresnoy-le-Grand foundry. The exceptional heat retention and moisture distribution develops flavour and keeps food moist and tender. Our shallow casserole is ideal for everyday use due to its versatility, whether braising, baking, roasting or stewing. This beautiful, quieter shade of Meringue, has become a standout favourite, proving that beauty comes in both bold and subtle forms, transforming simple meals into cherished occasions.”
Signature Stainless Steel Uncoated Shallow 26cm Frying Pan
“Suited to the most accomplished chef or the keen home cook, our 3-ply stainless steel blends timeless elegance with professional-grade performance. Offering culinary precision, durability, and everyday versatility for all cooking styles, this frying pan is perfect for searing meat, fish and vegetables and gently caramelising your food while adding serious flavour.”
Acacia Wood Carving Board
“We spend years in product development seamlessly perfecting the blend of functionality, design and aesthetics. This beautiful acacia wood carving board delivers a dual-design, one side acting as an expansive prep space or charcuterie board, while the reverse features a ridged carving surface with a deep well to collect juices from roasts or steaks. We think this rich acacia wood grain with laser-etched branding, acts as a striking centrepiece for entertaining and serving.”
Rainbow Stoneware Mugs Set of Six
“Our stoneware ranges are designed for durability while offering excellent heat retention, which is why our mugs have become a bestseller worldwide keeping hot drinks at the perfect temperature. Designed to inject joy into your daily coffee and tea rituals, this set of six showcases Le Creuset's most iconic ombre hues. For many, Le Creuset isn't just a means for cooking; it represents home, is a symbol of shared traditions, cooking techniques and secret family recipes passed down through generations and the memories born from that. We've been present for so many milestones in people's lives, from first homes to family celebrations. That emotional connection is incredibly powerful and something we deeply value.”
