For summer 2020, our sophomore womenswear collection celebrates the creative influence of historic female explorers – the Liberty woman as pioneer, artist and muse, mapping her travels through the art she creates. Design Director Holly Marler and her team were inspired by the figures such as the Surrealist artist Dorothea Tanning, botanist and adventurer Marianne North, and our own globe-trotting photographer and founding Liberty woman, Emma Lasenby Liberty. We invite you behind the scenes to discover the creative touchstones of this exquisite new collection, informed by a wealth of hand-painted prints and drawings from our archive.
“The hero print of the season is the Sedona hand-painted map. It details the artistic world which our female muse – an artist, curator and explorer – inhabits.”
“The Sedona design maps our muse’s pioneering voyages, the unique flora and fauna that she observes, and also the hidden animals which appear throughout the Liberty flagship store.”
“The design offers a nod to our heritage, pulling together an array of prints within one landscape and representing not only our need to look back into our history for inspiration, but also to discover.”
“We have created a collection of ultimately wearable clothes in luxurious fabrics, where carefully considered placed prints make each piece its own collectable treasure.”
