Describing her interior aesthetic as “Jamaican nan cottage core”, Laura Hunter is an eccentric tastemaker after our own hearts. With a penchant for William Morris prints, her Instagram account - No Feature Walls - is an ode to pattern, vintage-look furniture and traditional English style (with a signature twist). Here she takes us inside her vibrant Henley home, offering insight into her interior inspiration.

I’ve lived here for just over a year; we moved in September 2019. My interior aesthetic is Jamaican nan cottage core - which is a mix of patterns, wallpaper, and lots of florals. I do like a bit of an edge so try to incorporate some darker colours from accessories, frames and furniture pieces, to harden the florals here and there.

I love using a colour palette and sourcing different scale patterns within the same palette

For the upstairs bedrooms, I wanted to have a cosy traditional English feel as they are small. I was keen for the decor not to become overbearing so, although I have the heavily patterned wallpaper wrapped around the whole room, I wanted to create a sense of calm rather than chaos. Therefore, I don't tend to have too much 'out', just a few bedside essentials and then I keep the accessories succinct.

I started with the wallpaper in each room and worked from there in terms of fabrics and furniture. I tried to choose patterns which complemented rather than clashed with the wallpaper, but I didn't want things to be too 'matchy'. I love using a colour palette and sourcing different scale patterns within the same palette, including archive patterns. I sourced furniture from antique shops, as well as large interior shops. I also tried to create some pieces myself, such as the floral headboard in the main bedroom.

I like traditional English-style interiors with an updated twist, so Ben Pentreath and Luke Edward Hall are great. I also love Sophie Robinson who uses colour and pattern really well. I like to think I do my own thing so I don't tend to follow anyone too intently - otherwise you start second guessing your own ideas!

At the moment, I spend most of my time in the spare bedroom (which is the room with the Strawberry Thief Morris & Co. wallpaper). The reason being it has now become my working from home space, which was not its original intention but needs must!
