Marie Macon and Anne-Laure Lesquoy are on a mission to revive the more love-worn pieces in your wardrobe – but not without a healthy slice of humour. Translating stories into shimmering accoutréments, their hand-embroidered ‘jewels’ patch and pin the snagged, the stained and the moth-eaten, delivering charm and eccentricity while rescuing old failsafes from an untimely end.

“People from all countries, of all ages and different fashion styles wear our creations. Each person can refer personally to their brooch because it tells a story and also shows who they are or sends a personal message to others with poetry and humour.”

Marie Macon

For the Parisian design duo, travel is key, whether it takes them on the road or into the imagination: past collaborations have journeyed through the olfactory world of Diptyque and deep into the mind of Wes Anderson. Each season, a new theme is plucked out for exploration and, for Summer 2017, they cast their net a little closer to home, trawling the shores of Normandy that surround their Granville studio.

“We usually travel in order to get inspiration. The inspiration for the drawings comes from situations and experiences during these trips, people we meet there.”

Marie Macon

From iridescent shellfish and nautical insignia to regional specialities and off-the-wall water-dwellers, each piece is brought to life with the utmost skill, be it the ‘bijoux brodés’, hand-embroidered using the complex cannetille technique by a generations-old craft community in Pakistan, or the heat-sealable patches, meticulously machine-embroidered in Portugal. Follow the process from concept to store-ready and create your own dialogue with unexpected combinations…

“With its great long beaches, its bracing sea, its cloudy sun, its shellfish and crabs and other strange marine creatures, spring tides and daunting storms, Normandy couldn’t not bring us to creative musing.”
