Essential Print Fix: Liberty Face Coverings
Designed in the Liberty Fabrics studio and produced with sustainability in mindRead more
With face coverings considered key to maintaining public safety, they are 2020’s literal must-wear. The Liberty designers and producers have been hard at work creating beautiful, sustainable versions for our community, with designs created by the in-house studio team and expertly printed in Italy on upcycled and organic versions of our Tana Lawn™ cotton. We speak to Liberty Fabrics Design Director Mary-Ann Dunkley about the design and printing process – both for our own face coverings sold on site, and those created in a new Liberty partnership with LVRSustainable, the conscious section from Italy’s leading luxury retailer LuisaViaRoma. The collaboration embodies LVRSustainable’s icons of ethical trade and organic production, with a proud focus on luxury and craftmanship.
Featuring a breathable, triple-layered construction, our Liberty face coverings are sustainably crafted from upcycled Tana. For each set of coverings sold, one covering is donated to a charity, making them an uplifting print fix that benefits the community as well as brightening daily wear. “Our fabrics are created to the highest quality, using responsible production practices,” Dunkley explains. “With its focus on upcycling, empowerment and ethical trade, LVRSustainable shares a lot of Liberty's key concerns and focuses for the future.”
For the partnership with LVRSustainable, classic Liberty prints were sourced from the archive by our designers. “Each design has its own story – the prints selected are fresh and positive, chosen to co-ordinate with what people enjoy wearing. They’re the perfect lively complement to an outfit,” says Dunkley. The archival and hand-painted designs for these LVR face coverings are printed onto organic Tana, which features GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification along with our usual Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 rating.
