Shop the Collection

Created in the design studio, the Private View collection for Autumn/Winter 2020 is split into four ‘gallery’ stories, reflecting Liberty’s long-standing commitment to art and design in all its forms.

Each room of this imagined art gallery represents a different facet of the Liberty Fabrics story – from the Arts and Crafts heritage of the Permanent Collection to the lushly detailed floral studies of the Botanical Gallery, the witty conversational pieces of Curated Curiosities and the archival Asian and Middle Eastern-inspired textile designs of Eastern Treasures.

Permanent Collection

“The Liberty archive houses 13 William Morris prints – we have selected four of them to reimagine for the 21st century. Forbidden Fruit is heavily inspired by Strawberry Thief, a tropical interpretation depicting birds and citrus fruits in watercolour paints and pencils.”

Botanical Gallery

“Florals are an integral part of the Liberty DNA, often viewed within their natural habitat. In this gallery we explored the plant as a specimen through the eyes of botanists and horticulturalists. Poppy Amelie is drawn in pencil crayon on black paper, to add drama and depth.”

Curated Curiosities

“Taking inspiration from our original collector, Arthur Lasenby Liberty, we chose to explore the weird and wonderful world of collections – which can border on the obsessional, bizarre and even macabre. The Collector showcases curious treasures preserved in glass bell jars, drawn in fine liner pen.”

Eastern Treasures

“In this gallery we explore Liberty’s lasting relationship with Eastern decorative arts through studying Indian artefacts, paintings, fabrics and miniatures housed within our own archive. Luna Lotus interprets the exquisite patterns and textures of the paintings of the Mughal Court, fusing geometrics and florals in gouache paint.”
