Editor's notes

This framed drawing is an original piece from up-and-coming designer Frances Costelloe, drawn with Indian ink and framed in a black stained wooden frame – a modern collectable.

Frances Costelloe’s designs are created in her London studio, with a dreamy, stylish aesthetic that draws inspiration from the stripped-back impact of Matisse’s artworks. This A3-sized drawing features a simple line portrait, drawn by hand in ink on paper with a stained black wooden frame. Use it as the finishing flourish on a desk or wall area, bringing a sense of elegant lightness and fun to a curated living space.

“I’ve always been really into Indian ink drawings; I like how final it is. You can practice but you can’t rub out at all. I like the way that if you make a mistake, you just have to incorporate it into the work.” – Frances Costelloe

Please note: Each item is a unique multiple, made by hand by the artist – therefore each one is slightly different.

About

North London-based designer Frances Costelloe has shaped a collection of minimal homewares, punctuated by hand-painted female forms and playful, one-off ceramics. Using Indian ink and clay as her primary tools, Costelloe draws inspiration from the simple, linear forms of works by Matisse - transforming them into a distinctive line of lampshades, framed line drawings and scallop shell dishes.
