Liberty Fabrics
Betsy Silk Organza
Editor's Notes
One of Liberty’s best loved prints, Betsy is a particularly versatile design with endless possibilities. This small, stylised floral was originally created in 1933 by the enigmatic designer D.S., who was behind many of our other favourite Liberty Classics of that era – here, Betsy is given new life with fresh colours in highlighter shades.
The design is printed by experts in Italy onto our silk organza – a light, transparent and delicate silk fabric with a typically dry and soft hand feel, suitable for both everyday and high-impact statement wear. Use silk organza to add drama to multi-layered dress or blouse styles, or utilise it alone to create ultra-light scarves and accessories. Seam slippage value of this fabric is low, due to the nature of the construction.
“Of course Betsy is here, but she has a new look. Breezy tones of sunshine yellow, coral and sky blue bring a modern update to this Liberty classic.” – Shona Heath

COLLECTION
Visionary set designer Shona Heath brings her fantastical touch to Liberty print, in a unique new collaboration created for the Liberty Fabrics Design Series. Inspired by Philip Ridley’s 1996 children’s book The Hooligan’s Shampoo, Heath constructed miniature sculptures in her studio from everyday corner shop objects – off-kilter scenes of rubber-band bows, flowers made from washing up sponges, and discarded banana skins were painted into beautiful artworks by the Liberty Fabrics team, appearing here in a parade of vibrant colours and textures.
