Banana Slip Vintage Velvet
Created using photorealist, posterised images of dancing bananas, this large-scale design is saturated with colour and bursts with humour. The bold and simple pop-art technique evokes a sense of playfulness – a delightfully modern Liberty print.
The design is expertly printed in Italy onto our Vintage Velvet – a beautiful heavyweight base enjoyed for its luxurious feel and vibrant colour. Originally devised as a furnishing fabric for upholstery and heavy drapery, Vintage Velvet can also be used for strikingly high-impact garment design – use it to create thick jackets or ultra-structured dresses.
“This design is a fun-loving wink to all those banana skins lying in wait for an unassuming passer-by. The bananas were photographed and posterised for a pop art feel, with hand drawn outlines. The overall appearance is a totally fresh take on a conversational print.” – Shona Heath

Visionary set designer Shona Heath brings her fantastical touch to Liberty print, in a unique new collaboration created for the Liberty Fabrics Design Series. Inspired by Philip Ridley’s 1996 children’s book The Hooligan’s Shampoo, Heath constructed miniature sculptures in her studio from everyday corner shop objects – off-kilter scenes of rubber-band bows, flowers made from washing up sponges, and discarded banana skins were painted into beautiful artworks by the Liberty Fabrics team, appearing here in a parade of vibrant colours and textures.
