Re-imagining British heirlooms into unique, ready-to-wear pieces, London-based jewellery designer Annina Vogel is a modern magpie. Sourcing vintage charms, chains and trinkets from all over the UK, Vogel builds forward-thinking collections that sing with character.

We talk to the master of vintage-made-new about transforming lost treasures into contemporary pieces for today’s individualist.

Where does your love of jewellery come from?My mother was an antique jewellery dealer so I grew up surrounded by inspiration.

What was the first piece of jewellery you owned?A gold dachshund charm which ultimately became part of a very full and chunky charm bracelet.

What’s your favourite jewellery era?I love everything Victorian.  They combined exceptional craftsmanship with clever symbolism.

What prompted you to start your own line?I always played around with jewellery as a hobby.  After my mother passed away I went through a massive life change and decided to follow my creative pursuits more seriously.

How would you describe the Annina Vogel aesthetic?Rock Chick meets Royalty.

How do you go about building your collections?I’m always hunting for the holy grail of Victorian jewellery, looking for unique and whimsical pieces that I can incorporate into my work.

What are the key things to look out for when buying vintage jewellery?Go with your gut and buy what you love!

Can you share a Liberty London memory?I still have a Cacharel Liberty print baby grow that my mum bought for me when I was less than a year old!
