“In an age where timekeeping is almost a reflexive reaction, the art of time and the design of instruments that capture the progress of time are still intriguing to a large swathe of the watch-wearing audience. In short, no-one needs a watch. We envision that someone wearing DuFa simply enjoys the quiet, subtle, unassuming quality of a design piece that is simply engineered to tell the time.”
DuFa (Deutsche UhrenFAbrik –simply translated: German watch factory) was originally based in the German cities of Mülhausen (Thuringia state) and Leipzig, giving it an indelible geographical tie to both the Bauhaus movement and German Classicism. Although the original company was well established pre-WWII, it took the brand’s 21st century reincarnation to really push this connection through design.
German watchmaking principles and Bauhaus values are brought to life for a contemporary audience by pairing exceptional workmanship with clear, disciplined geometry and considered typography and proportion. DuFa watches are made to look striking from every angle, even though the overall appearance is relatively simple. Think precision machinery without the superfluous.
