Supermodel Anja Rubik’s debut fragrance, Original, is a bold, feminine eau de parfum. Of the inspiration behind this first foray into scent design, Rubik says: “I wanted to create something new and unique - something bold yet delicate, that represents the modern woman. I wanted a sensually floral scent with a touch of toughness, modernity and spice.”

“I want the scent to inspire women to follow their own spirit and embrace their individuality.”

Creating a fragrance has always been on the model’s road map: “It's something I have wanted to do for years, but it had to be the right time.” And though she worked with a stellar team, Rubik involved herself in every step of the process, from creating the scent to the bottle design. “It was a real learning experience and took a few years to perfect.”

Being so heavily invested in the design process clarified Rubik’s vision for the scent: “I knew I really wanted to create something that represented my vision of beauty. I wanted the fragrance to have a special message connected to it: It's more than a perfume, it's a mood and a state of mind.”

Referencing Debbie Harry, Patti Smith, Bianca Jagger and Jane Birkin as her “effortlessly cool” style icons, it’s no wonder Rubik chose such a confident moniker when naming her scent: “Original captures the manifesto of the fragrance. I want the scent to inspire women to follow their own spirit and path and embrace their individuality.”

Of embracing her own individuality every day, Rubik says she tries “to follow my own instinct and create my own way of thinking, rather than following something blindly. It's got easier with age. Trusting yourself and being comfortable in your own skin is the most important thing.”

It might be this self-assured perspective that has allowed the model’s career to grow from strength-to-strength in the past decade, capturing many designers’ and photographers’ attention and making her the face of powerhouses Chloe, Elie Saab and Gucci.

When asked what she loves about British institution Liberty, the Polish-born model credits the store’s thoughtfully-curated brands: “It is the perfect fit for the fragrance and I'm so thrilled about our collaboration.”
