Serena Thompson

How long have you been at Liberty? Since May 2014.

How did you get here? I have experience in retail, and childrenswear in particular. I never imagined I would get a position in a luxury department store, but I took the plunge and got it!

What’s your current role? I am currently a Sales Consultant in the childrenswear department. I oversee the day-to-day running of the room, make sure all major projects run smoothly, customers are satisfied, targets are met and my colleagues are happy.

What’s the best thing about your role? The fact that every day is different! There’s always something big we are working towards, whether it be sale, a stock take or a product launch. There is always something new a customer or colleague says or does that puts a smile on my face.

What’s the best thing about Liberty? The team, and by that I don't just mean my colleagues in my room, but throughout the store. There has never been dissension in the ranks, we have always felt like we are working as one. Comparative to other London retail employers, it’s a small team but it’s all the better for it.

How did you get here? In 1989 I worked for a week in the summer sale at Liberty, and although my career has included head office roles at both department stores and global supermarkets, I always wanted to return!

What’s your current role? Head of Performance and Planning for Liberty Art Fabrics. I manage the wholesale fabrics customer service team, the range planning, pricing and reporting.

What’s the best thing about your role? The variety, and the opportunity to help grow a great business.

What’s the best thing about Liberty? The strength of the brand, the passion of the team and the loyalty of the customers.

How long have you been at Liberty? Since August 2014.

How did you get here? I've always loved retail and I've worked in a number of stores while studying, eventually becoming part of the management team of a stationery store. I began my HR career as an HR Administrator for a small boutique store, then moved my way up to HR Assistant. I really enjoyed the variety of the role and in particular found training fun and the most interesting part of my job. I got the opportunity to join a major high street chain in Learning and Development and moved to the big smoke. A few years later I got a call regarding the role at Liberty, I was excited at the opportunity to join such an iconic business, so here I am!

What’s your current role? My role is Learning & Development Manager. No two days are the same, I get the opportunity to meet all of the new starters and work with the existing teams, creating training solutions to help the amazing people we have working here to excel in their roles.

What’s the best thing about your role? The variety - one minute I'll be welcoming new starters, the next I'll be analysing feedback from training to see what we can do differently or having a coaching conversation about development. It keeps me on my toes!

What’s the best thing about Liberty? Getting to work with people that are truly passionate about where they work. Liberty has a magic about it - and the people that work here embody it.

How long have you been at Liberty? Since July 2016.

How did you get here? I got my job at Liberty after working for a security company, working in high-end stores and in corporate security.

What’s your current role? As security manager, I am responsible for security within Liberty and head office. I develop security and loss prevention strategy, train retail staff in security awareness, assist with investigations, crime prevention and profit protection.

Describe your team: I have a very proactive and approachable team, who constantly work towards the same objective: protecting the assets of our company, its people and customers, in order to offer a world-class service at all times.

What’s the best thing about your role? The best thing about my role is knowing the business supports my decisions, plus the support and training I have been given. It is also rewarding to be able to pass on security knowledge to my team and colleagues.

What’s the best thing about Liberty? It’s a combination of things; the building itself is a wonderful place to work. Our teams working together and our customers make the whole retail experience unique, no day is the same so we’re constantly evolving in a positive manner.

How long have you been at Liberty? Since summer 2011.

How did you get here? I was working as business manager for a concession in Liberty. After growing the business to the number one UK account, I noticed an opportunity at Liberty to manage the beauty department. From there I worked my way up to managing menswear and childrenswear as well.

What’s the best thing about Liberty? The opportunities I have had and the career progression. Working for a smaller store I can give suggestions, feedback and implement ideas. Every day is varied, I never get bored and if anything I always want my days to slow down so I can get more done. The people in the business make it a special place to work, and I love working in such a stunning British building. Every day I come to work I feel like I'm in Arthur Liberty's home!
